The Importance of Reading Together
One of the things I remember about my childhood is reading with my family. My parents read to me every night before bed. My father was a very big influence in my life for reading. Every Saturday morning he would take my sister and me to the public library for Story Hour and to check out books. Reading was just part of my life from the time I was very young.
I have continued this reading tradition in my own home with my children. My husband and I have read to
our girls since they were babies.
I encourage you parents to read aloud to your children and encourage them to read independently as they are
old enough. If you need some book recommendations, just give me a call or stop by the library for some suggestions! Here is a list of some of my all-time favorites that I read as a child. I thought that you and your family might enjoy
them too!
Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great by Judy Blume
The Little House Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle by Betty MacDonald
Charlotte's Web by E. B. White
Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion
Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess
